I Was Robbed Of 900 Dollars

I paid for a friend's cosplay suit, the up front payment that was agreed upon was 900 dollars other fees to be adjusted. The person I paid across PayPal agreed to it and demanded I place the payment in friends and family, my friend who was living with him said he could be trusted so I paid. However, now my friend is being evicted suddenly and one of the reasons we figured and found was because the family entered financial trouble, meaning the money I paid for the suit is now gone completely and the money was used on things we didn't agree on. I have proof of payment and the agreement in texts saved in images on my phone for evidence now that he is refusing to pay me back for the agreed service and PayPal won't cover the cost due to the fact he convinced me to pay as friend/family. Is there anything I can legally due to get my money back? Because even with the friend and family PayPal payment this feels like fraud. (He lives in Colorado)
