I'm Unemployed And Have A Summons To Appear In Court For Credit Card Debt I Owe. What Can I Do?

The case is in Virginia and set for mid-July of this year.

The total debt for the case is about $2500.

I owe around $50,000 in debt, mostly credit cards and an upstart loan. I owe an additional $10,000 in medical bills.

I have no assets: no car or house. After an injury and breakup, I had to move back in with my parents.

I will try not to bog down with too much detail, but I enrolled in Freedom Debt Relief and Turnball Law Group through them when I was employed. They told me to stop paying all my credit card and loan payments. I paid over $5,000 to them and could only settle one credit card with an original balance of $1800. I was with someone who wasn't paying their portion of living expenses, and I missed some payments and defaulted on settlements for three other credit cards due to having to pay total rent and other living expenses. Turnbull ended up keeping the majority of the $5,000 I paid in.

Soon after, I left my job due to an issue reported to HR that was ignored because I was a contract employee. There were also issues with overtime payments. My now ex said he would take over the payments now that he had money since I paid most, if not all, the other expenses the last year. Spoiler alert: he never paid anything. ( I know, I should have never trusted him now). I finally got another job, but not before defaulting on the whole program.

I was going to start making payments again but was laid off due to a back injury since I was still training at my new job. I have been unable to find a job since, and my interest has been just climbing. Most cards and the loan vary from 25%-29.99% interest.

I've been trying to sell off the little possessions I have and can maybe get enough to settle for half of the $2500. I don't have enough to hire a lawyer. Should I try to call the credit card company's lawyer or just show up on my court date then? Do I apply for Bankruptcy, and if so, how?

While I haven't always made the best financial decisions, I always paid my bills 100% on time before starting the program with Freedom Debt Relief. I've never even gotten a traffic ticket. So I'm lost at what to do. Any advice is welcome.
