I Feel Screwed Over.

This is my first Reddit post entirely so I apologize if I’m unfamiliar with how everything works. So my girlfriend and I were applying to rent at a few places. We found an opening for a Yes! Community through their website. So we applied and waited. A whole week goes by with no email or call so I decided to call and check the status. The lady on the phone told me the unit I applied for had already been spoken for. Meaning someone already signed for it, before our application was submitted. Now after telling me that, they refused to refund me for a “non-refundable” application fee, which I understand but I applied for a unit that was no longer open all because their website wasn’t updated, or someone wasn’t doing what they were supposed to be doing. Well now, they still have that unit up on their website but has since changed it from rent or purchase to purchase only. And so now I feel we were discriminated against because we were trying to rent. We’ve spent over 400$ just to apply to all the townhomes and apartments we’ve sent in. And now I’m out 100$ for an application that wasn’t even for a legit opening. This doesn’t feel right. I want to contact the BBB, but their specific office doesn’t pull up and I don’t know if I should find the corporate address. I’ve attempted to contact corporate with calls and emails and no one ever gets back to me or answers. If times weren’t tough I’d just take the L. But I live barely above poverty so 100$ quite literally will break me. Is there anything. That can be done? Or am I trying to fight a useless battle?
