House Situation
I have a weird situation going on and need an attorney, I just don’t know which one (warning, long post):
My dad has never been in my life. He left us when I was a baby and I never spoke to him. He had 2 kids with another woman in California and I just recently found out. My step brother and I texted a couple times and talked on the phone but aren’t close. Recently my dad died (in Cali, we’re in SA) again we never spoke.
Now my step brother with the same name but the fifth (example: Thomas the fifth) (I’m the fourth) called me and told me that the house was left in my name. He says the lawyer made a mistake and put the fourth on the documents when it should’ve been the fifth. I immediately said no worries I’ll sign it over. He said the lawyer will reach out to me - this was beginning of April. Still nobody reached out till today.
but a conversation with a co worker made me realize that maybe my dad genuinely left the house in my name and not in his. So I’d like to see the documents, I just don’t know where to get help or how to go on about this. I can imagine that this could become a problematic topic so I am thinking of getting an attorney just to be safe.
Can anyone tell me what kind of attorney I’d need? And also any input or advice on what you think or what I should do?
