Hotel Booked, Policy States That They Just Require A Deposit, Now They Are Demanding The Full Amount Or They Will Cancel
Hello, my MIL is getting married in October in NOLA. There will be the Voodoo fest happening the same week as the wedding, so everything is booked up. She reserved a really nice hotel months ago, which will total around $6k. She paid a deposit to secure the booking, and was going to pay the remaining balance at checkin per their policy. Yesterday, the hotel called to let her know that she needed to pay the remaining balance now or they would cancel the booking. Apparently Taylor Swift scheduled a concert for that weekend, so it seems like the hotel is attempting to get people to cancel so they can resell the rooms for a higher price. As she is planning a wedding and has other expenses, MIL doesn’t have the $6k to pay the balance right now. She had planned to put that money aside for the next few months as it was not expected to be paid until October. Do we have any recourse here? No other hotels are available in the area or even Airbnb’s due to the voodoo fest and now the Tswift concert. If we lose the room this will ruin all the wedding plans and deposits for the venue, food, etc have all been paid. Thanks in advance, any advice is appreciated!
