Found Out At 40 That I Was In A Conservatorship Until 18 And Had A Trust I Never Knew About. What Can I Do?
Location: oregon
I am 40 and I just learned by accident that I was in a conservatorship from infancy until I turned 18. I found it while I decided to enter my name in a court records site to see traffic tickets I may need to pay. The docket shows my name, my birth date, my parent as the conservator, and me listed as a protected person.
It also shows there were several accounts set up in my name, a bank account and an annuity. The record says the money was withdrawn when I turned 18, but that was not me. I never knew this conservatorship existed, never received any notice, and no one ever told me anything about a trust. I suspect any mail about it was intercepted.
Many of the records are sealed or restricted and I have requested copies of everything I can.
My questions:
How could I have been placed in a conservatorship as a child and never told about it?
Was I supposed to receive notice when it ended?
If my parent or conservator withdrew the trust money when I turned 18, do I have any legal options now?
What type of lawyer should I contact?
Any advice would be appreciated.
