Fired During Training, Contract Says They Don't Need To Pay Me

all of my friends and family are telling me it's illegal for an employer to do this so I figured I'd ask people who actually know laws lol
I was hired Thursday for a company. we completed some training Tuesday and Wednesday. on Tuesday I signed the necessary paperwork to be hired lalalala well one paper that caught my eye was a paper stating that if I was fired and or quit within 30 days of hiring they didn't need to pay me. another thing was yesterday out of the blue I was told I wasn't allowed to discuss my pay with co-workers. I completed about 4-5 hours of training and got a call this morning stating they were letting me go as I wasn't a fit for the job. okay, cool, understood!
my friends and family are telling me this is shady business. any advice??
also, the agreed upon payment was 15/h so 4-5 hours isn't a big deal but still it's money that was supposed to be mine
