Fedex Driver Faked Signature On Package And Marked As Delivered On High Value Item

The item shipped from FedEx was never delivered. The status of the delivery first said that the package was signed/delivered at 12:20 pm 06/03/2024 by a person who doesn’t live in the buidling . Upon checking our cameras and talking to all our neighbors in the building and nearby , no one received any package , no one by the name of the person signed lives in the building and it never shows that the driver made any delivery attempt on the cameras. I started a claim with Fedex and upon further investigation by a case manager , they claim that the driver lied about his initial claim that he delivered the package to a person in the second floor and was taken by someone. They also say that the driver faked the signature to make it seem like it was delivered to someone in the building. We also told Fedex to send the driver back to our place to tell us where he " left the package " and with " whom" as our neighbors would fully cooperate with the investigation but the driver would not cooperate. Therefore, all parties involved suspect that the driver stole the package and is now claiming it as a "lost package " which is contrary to what the driver has initially stated. Fedex has told me to start a claim with the shipper but their policy states if a signature is there then they cant start a claim , I told them it’s a fake signature made by the driver as well but they said to contact the shipper and it’s a on going back and forth thing with the shipper and merchant and nothing is getting resolved so I don’t have the item and lost over 1k . The bank suggests I file a police report / possibly sue as this will help my case but I have no details on the driver who is mainly responsible for what happend and believe it is due to theft not negligence based on the signature provided and refusal to cooperate . What further steps should I take in order to get information about the driver ? Do I need a lawyer to be able to get information about the driver at this point ? .
