Dentist Worked On Wrong Tooth

Over the weekend one of my Molars had either filling pop out or cracked, I contacted a dentist and setup an appointment on Tuesday to get it taken care of, this dentists sister office had done work for me in the past and was very happy with the results their pricing and had made everything very clear and simple so I had no problem going to them again.
Come Tuesday I come in and tell them what happened and he takes a look and says I need a crown, a filling, and a cleaning which to me makes sense no red flags. The dentist then does another oral exam and tells me he needs to redo one of my silver fillings that I had gotten done when I was a teen, and this had caught me off guard as I had talked to a dentist in the bay area about it because I was curious about replacing it with a modern composite filling, but that dentist had told me there's absolutely no reason to replace it. So I decline the service and let him begin the crown. Upon walking out the door the numbness started to wear down and I was able to feel that the crack was still there and I walk back in concerned that they didn't fix the crack in the mold for the permanent crown that's to come in a couple weeks. The dentist tells me to come back tomorrow and they'll take care of it.
The next day I come in and it's a different dentist in this day. They go straight to do the casting for the permanent crown and I stop the assistant and or Hygienist and express my grievances. This is when things start to get concerning, she was confused as I already had a temporary crown and she grabs the dentist to get the treatment plan and make sure everyone is on the same page. Dentist comes over and tells me we're doing 2 fillings and finishing up the crown, and I tell him that I had refused to replace the old silver filling and he's like no problem. but then I tell him about the filling and or cracked tooth and he tells me that's what the other filling is going to fix. I jaw drops and I'm like wait hold on, why are we doing this crown then. I ask him to take a look at the x-ray and see if he can explain to me the logic behind this crown. (note this is not the same dentist as the prior day) he looks at it and says some times when there's previous fillings they want to put a crown on it instead to make it more stable.
I express to him that I understand that but I didn't come in here for that tooth I came in for the one that had been cracked or the filling popped out and said so why would you even touch that tooth if that's not what I came in for. He just shrugged his shoulders and got really defensive and the Hygienist that was there makes an alarming face and walks away to the front desk. I told the dentist I'm not mad at him as he's not the one that was here yesterday and was just trying to get his opinion on the situation because at this point I'm feeling like the previous dentist just pulled a fast one and did either unnecessary work or did the work on the wrong tooth entirely (I'm missing my far back molar from an accident years ago and never got it replaced so it's possible there was a miscount). after talking to this dentist and him basically expressing that the crown didn't make sense if that tooth wasn't part of the reason why I came in. One of the Hygienists that was taking care of me the previous day comes in and apologies and says she contacted the dentist from yesterday and that I can come in and talk to him tomorrow (today), he's also the owner of the office.
what's my recourse on this if any as I currently feel like they did unnecessary work, the crown was only 900 which in my experience is a really good price so I paid in full with a credit card. I was currently thinking about charging back after the work has been complete as this work in my opinion was done under false pretenses. I work in the payment industry so I know the initial chargeback will cost him not only the amount the chargeback is for but what ever his processors CB buy rate is, and if he fights it and goes into arbitration it will cost typically 500 for him to try and keep fighting it so he may not give push back on it if he's aware of the costs behind that. But after I sat on this for a while I don't think it's enough to just get my money back as crowns do have potential long term costs involved and those costs that could occur 10~30 years from now may be significantly higher than what I paid. I was wondering if there's anything I can do or should do in this scenario. as I feel like he cheated me and fear that he's probably cheating other clients of unnecessary work.
EDIT. I'm located in California.
