Debt Collectors Have Been Calling My Phone Number For Years Looking For A Man I Do Not Know In Any Way. I Would Like This To Stop.

As a zeroth rule, I understand I have the option to change my phone number, however I do not want to resort to that method unless I must for both medical and personal reasons.

I'm from Texas and have a Texan phone number, but I am currently living in Virginia. For at least four years now I have receiving phone calls from (medical) debt collectors in Texas who are looking for a man we may call E to pay a medical bill. I do not know E in any sort of way and I have had this phone number for almost twenty years.

Despite that, I have no idea why they are calling my number, but I would guess E's phone number may be similar to mine and there could have been a mistake or mix up when they exchanged information at some point.

Either way, when these collectors call, I tell them every time I do not know E, E does not live with me, and I do not possess any sort of debt, and I wish to not be contacted. This doesn't do much because about a week later, a new debt collection agency calls me and the whole circuit starts all over again. I can comfortably say I have been called by over a hundred different debt collection agencies by this point all searching for E. As a layman, I personally believe these collectors may be selling E's medical debt to the next agency who hopes to collect, despite the fact that the agency selling the information would know that they are providing the wrong phone number.

I wish for these calls to stop. It has gotten to the point that I become agitated every time my phone rings and I see an area code from the Texas area. I'm considering legal council and action as a result of this grief. What resources do I have to try and have these calls finally stop?
