Debt Collectors Coming After Me For Car I Legally Sold That Was Involved In Accident By New Owner.

Located in North Carolina. I sold a vehicle to another individual in North Carolina, got the title notarized with our signatures, bill of sale, and proof of my plate turn in at the DMV.

About a year goes by, I am deployed overseas with the military and get a notification I have a claim on my insurance for an auto accident. I contact my insurance and they have an open claim on the vehicle I used to own. I find out that the new owner never registered the vehicle in his name and was using different plates and driving uninsured and got into an accident.

Geico is coming after me through debt collectors for additional payment for medical services. I have provided the documentation that I was not the legal owner and I rightfully sold this vehicle. I have gone through four debt collection agencies with sending this documentation. Additionally, North Carolina tried suspending my license in which I had to rebuttal and was able to overcome.

I now am deployed overseas again and getting more letters at home seeking payments. The new company contacting me is Thomas George Associates Ltd.

How do I stop these letters and who do I contact for this? It is extremely difficult being deployed overseas trying to fight these letters and debts that I have no involvement in.

I was deployed overseas when the accident occurred last year and now I’m back overseas and still receiving these letters. Please help.
