Advice, My Ssn And Birth Certificate Are Misspelled.

Card image cap

I live in Texas, and am going to get my state ID, I have noticed my SSN and birth certificate are misspelled, adding a letter to my middle name.

Incorrect Ex: Sarah Janie White Supposed to be: Sarah Jane White

The first original record of birth, with my footprints on it straight from the hospital, has it correct. The typographical error probably happened getting the official one.

I don't have an ID, and since I am 21, I don't think I can get my mom to apply to change it on my behalf anymore. On the part where it says "Who can apply for a correction" one of the options is:

"• Hospital or medical facility where the person named on the birth certificate was born."

Does that mean the hospital can request it fixed? If I am a legal adult? If so, can I ask them to do that if I don't have an ID?

If they can't, I might have to get my ID, and do I just spell it the incorrect way on the DPS ID form, since that is what's legal? If I succeed in getting the ID with the incorrect spelling, can I still claim after, on the name correction form, that there is an error, after I have previously agreed that that is my name to get my ID?

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!
