[nc] Absent Signs Or Gates, Is Law Enforcement Allowed To Wander On Private Property, Unannounced And Without Notice They Were There?

Just completed building a small cottage in a rural area on a 4 mile dirt road with about 30 houses. It's been advertised for rent for a few months. Have security cams monitoring until it's rented. Caught what looks like the back end of our County Sheriff in uniform walking up the driveway by himself. Cams are hit or miss and didn't catch him walking out or the front or sides, did not catch vehicle. I suppose he could've been there checking out the place for a friend or someone who wants to rent, which would be great. We'd even give a discount for law enforcement. But I'm just curious about the legality of law enforcement basically wandering around on the property. Should I message him to offer a private tour? Just forget about it? Would a gate and friendly signs that say 'by appointment only' protect from such wanderments?
