Should Sam Harris Address The Incel Epidemic?
In the recent podcast Sapolsky referenced a study that found beautiful people and morality is perceived the same way by the brain. So essentially a good looking person is ascribed good personality traits while the inverse is true for ugly people. This is otherwise known as the halo effect. Sam Harris in the same podcast said good looking people have vastly different lives and see the world as a kinder place.
There is an ideology brewing online from incels labeled black pill which is pretty much the idea that your looks control how you are perceived especially by the opposite sex, and your looks is mostly determined by your facial structure and height. Those in the black pill community suggest the current dating landscape is caused by increased polygyny due to the increased options females have now due to social media and online dating. Over 60% of young males(18-29) are single which is almost double that of young women. Therefore the more attractive men are getting most the women and increasing the standards of the average woman. This has made it more difficult for below average looking men.
I believe there is a lot of truth to the ideology however it seems mostly ignored by the media who believe this is a terrorist cult radicalising young men. It would be interesting for Sam Harris to investigate this issue honestly and have a guest on who understands more than the gynocentric view.
