Samsung is about to reveal a wide-scale restructuring, retiring key officials from its TV and appliance businesses. TM Roh’s influence has started to be visible as Samsung DX braces to focus on AI and innovation.

Chosun, citing industry sources, claims Samsung will reveal a major organizational restructuring this week. The company is shifting focus from its TV and appliances to AI and innovation to compete with challenges.

Analyses suggest that the Korean tech giant may promote talents who have achieved results in new technology fields such as AI, next-generation semiconductors, and 6G in this round of executive appointments.

Recently, the company has finalized and announced President-level appointments. The scale of changes isn’t as big as expected earlier, but the organizational changes are going to be massive, targeting the DA and VD Business.

The decision is said to be influenced by the judgment that the difficult period for home appliances, due to sluggish demand, intensifying competition with China, and changes in global distribution networks, will be longer than expected.

Last week, Samsung reportedly notified executives in each business unit of their retirement. Reports suggest that the number of retiring executives in the home appliance business was larger than anticipated.

Samsung isn’t the only vendor affected by sluggish TV and appliance sales. Korea’s LG and Chinese TV and appliance giants like TCL and HiSense are also experiencing a period of stagnation in terms of profitability.

A senior Samsung official stated, “A significant number of the executives who received retirement notices since last week are concentrated in the home appliance sector.”
