KOTA KINABALU (Mar 13): The Sabah Immigration Department (JIM) is actively conducting Ramadan Bazaar operations to curb the activities of illegal immigrants (PATI).
Its director, Datuk Sh. Sitti Saleha Habib Yusof, stated that the department remains committed to carrying out these operations to ensure no illegal immigrants are conducting business in the area.
“In terms of bazaar operations, we conduct them daily to ensure no undocumented foreigners are trading in the bazaar area. This has been our routine, and we are also continuing other operations such as Ops Kutip and Ops Sapu.
“Aside from Ops Bazar, we also prioritize operations based on public complaints. We have received public complaints regarding the presence of PATI, especially in areas considered as squatter zones. This is where immigration enforcement focuses its efforts.
“So far, there have been arrests, and our focus during this Ramadan is on the presence of undocumented foreigners trading in the bazaar,” she explained.
According to Sitti Saleha, as of Thursday, JIM Sabah has arrested 1,143 individuals, while repatriation to their home countries has been carried out 21 times, involving 1,382 people, 90% of whom are Filipino nationals.
She made these remarks during a media interview after paying a courtesy visit to Head of State Tun Musa Aman at the Seri Kinabalu Palace on Thursday.
She added that the courtesy visit aimed to introduce herself, as well as to report on the department’s performance and functions related to Section (7) of the Immigration Act and the need for the construction of an Immigration Complex to house all divisions of JIM Sabah.
