- The iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Wagens are getting an upgrade for the 2025 model year.
- Both new models have 48-volt hybrid systems.
- Adaptive cruise control is available for the first time on the G63.
Mercedes-Benz is updating its iconic G-class SUVs for the 2025 model year, adding electrified options to both models.
The G550 swaps its previous V8 rumbler for a new turbo six-cylinder, with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, which reduces emissions when accelerating from a full stop.
The G63, on the other had, retains the V8 and adds the same 48-volt hybrid system.
Both models feature better technology inside and out, including an adaptive cruise control system known as AMG Active Ride Control for the G63 — a first for the G-class.
Pricing for the SUVs have not been announced yet, but the new Mercedes G-class is expected to hit US dealerships later this year.

The G-class's iconic boxy design is largely intact with this latest redesign, but Mercedes did add some new design cues that hint at what the all-electric model may look like.
Mercedes has teased a "near-production" concept of the electric EQG, but has not revealed a final product just yet.
The shared features of the hybrid G550 include a new A-pillar trim, a roof spoiler, and new insulation materials to improve aerodynamics and cut down on road noise.

If you want to keep your V8, you'll have to upgrade to the G63 for the 2025 model year.
This model is equipped with a 577-horsepower V8 hand-built engine with a 48-volt hybrid electrical system.

The more powerful G63 also gets the G-class's first adaptive cruise control system with hydraulic roll stabilization and adaptive adjustable dampening to deliver more agility around curves.

The G550 has expanded leather options, according to Mercedes. The interior is also equipped with luxurious details like circular climate control vents that mimic the shape of the rounded headlights that sandwich the silver chrome radiator grille on the exterior.

Equipped with the new AMG Active Ride Control, the G63 is tuned to handle rugged off-road conditions.
The system improves wheel articulation, allowing the G63's wheels to maintain ground contact even on the most uneven surfaces.

In addition to more leather options, the G550 interior can be enhanced with a package that includes ambient lighting in the air vents and around speakers.
The G550's interior also features two 11.6-inch touch displays, climate controlled cup holders, and wireless charging for your phone.

Mercedes has yet to announce pricing for its two new G-class SUVs, but the current models start at around $143,000.
Pricing will likely be announced closer to the vehicle's launch, with Mercedes aiming to get the new G-class on dealer lots in the second half of this year.
