Goodbye markets, hello Clarice!

That’s the view of former congressman and Fox News host Trey Gowdy, who says he’d rather watch the classic thriller than the stock market because it’s “less scary” than what’s happening on Wall Street.

Gowdy invoked the 5-time Oscar-winning film Silence of the Lambs as he introduced media honcho Steve Forbes on this weekend’s edition of Sunday Night in America With Trey Gowdy.

GOWDY: The president is not relenting on terrorists, neither are other countries. Where does that leave us? Joining us Forbes media chairman and editor-in-chief Steve Forbes. Welcome Mr. Forbes. I actually stopped looking at the market. I’ve been watching the Silence of the Lambs because it is less scary for me then looking at the stock market. So, what is going on with the market?

FORBES: Well, don’t pay too much attention to Hannibal right now. But the insurgency of the tariffs as businesses and individuals halting on their plans for they want to see what the rules of the road are going into the future. So the sooner the president can get the stability in terms of setting the tariff rates, people know what the rules of the game are rates do not change 25 to 50% or 10% because that disrupts is not just prices it is the supply chain who are you going to buy from? In terms of materials, at what price? The sooner that is done the better.

Gowdy was the latest to poke at President Donald Trump’s tariff flip-flop that has sent Wall Street flailing, with the stock market losing over $4 trillion in value.

Over the weekend, NBC’s Meet the Press host Kristen Welker grilled U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on the state of the economy. and he could not guarantee there would be no recession under Trump.

Last week, Trump’s trade and manufacturing adviser Peter Navarro fumed at a Sky News reporter who asked why Trump “keeps changing his mind” about tariffs.

“Looks like the president is negotiating strategically. So stop with the rhetoric. Okay? Just stop that crap,” Navarro told reporters in a clip taken by USA Today’s Joey Garrison.

Also last week, Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy declared that Americans’ retirement accounts are being “throttled” in Trump’s trade war.
