- Demi Moore's outfit was made with wallpaper.
On Monday, dozens of celebrities descended upon the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for this year's Met Gala — "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion."
The night's dress code is "The Garden of Time," inspired by a short story by J.G. Ballard.
And although the outfits come with a high price tag, attending the Met Gala also isn't cheap — tickets for this year's Met Gala cost about $35,000 each, and entire tables can cost up to $300,000.
Here are some details from the night you may have missed.

Zendaya returned to the Met Gala as a cochair after not attending since 2019.
She wore an off-the-shoulder striped gown designed by John Galliano for Maison Margiela with floral accents and a decorative bird.
If you look closely, there are grapes on her shoulder, which could be a nod to the garden element of the night's dress code — though grapes are not actually mentioned in the short story it's inspired by.

Zendaya appeared on the Met Gala carpet hours after her first appearance with a second look. This time, she paired a Givenchy gown with an Alexander McQueen headpiece designed to look like a bouquet.
It was revealed during the E! livestream that a changing room at the top of the carpet allowed her to put on the second look and circle back.

Grammy winner Tyla incorporated real sand into her Balmain look, which she described as a reference to the "sands of time."
The skin-tight dress covered in sand was a fitting nod to the theme, though Tyla needed assistance moving in the look. People helped her carry her dress and, at one point, she was even lifted onto the steps of the red carpet.
"Will you be able to sit once you get inside?," host Ross Matthews asked on the E! red carpet. "Who knows?" she replied, laughing.
To complete the look, Tyla carried an hourglass and had glittery sand smeared on her shoulder.

Actor Colman Domingo wore a white and black look with a cape designed by Willy Chavarria.
While on the carpet, he explained that the cape is a tribute to two late icons, journalist André Leon Talley and actor Chadwick Boseman.
Both Talley and Boseman previously wore iconic looks with capes to the Met Gala.

Model Gigi Hadid wore a white Thom Browne gown to the Met Gala that's made with 2.8 million microbeads.
The gown reportedly took more than 70 people over 13,500 hours to make. It's perhaps ironic when this year's theme is inspired by a story about not having enough time.

Musician Charli XCX wore a Marni gown made of vintage T-shirts. She told Vogue that the dress took over 200 hours to make.

Singer Rita Ora wore a Tom Ford gown consisting of a mesh bodysuit with rows of different colored beads hanging off of it.
She told Vogue some of the beads were from the first and second century BC, making them "older than anyone on this planet."
The decision to use a material that has endured for centuries seems like a fitting nod to the theme of reawakening former fashion looks.

Kendall Jenner walked the carpet in a dress from the archives. Her Alexander McQueen for Givenchy Couture dress made its debut in 1999.
During the Vogue livestream, Jenner explained she was the "first human" to walk out in the dress since it'd only ever been displayed publicly on a mannequin.

Demi Moore wore a bold pink and black silk gown with a heart-shaped back. The actor's dress was designed by Harris Reed and made of vintage wallpaper.
Again, the decision to repurpose a material not typically used for clothing could be a nod to the overall "reawakening" theme of the night.

Singer Camila Cabello paired her Ludovic de Saint Sernin Ludovic de Saint Sernin gown with an actual block of ice.
While on the carpet, she told Matthews the ice was meant to melt as she walked so it'd reveal a rose.

Doja Cat was photographed leaving her hotel earlier in the day wearing a see-through piece of plastic fabric that appeared to be a shower curtain. Later, she was spotted wearing a towel on her head and one wrapped around her body.
Finally, for the Met Gala carpet, the rapper and singer showed up in what appeared to be a soaking-wet oversized T-shirt dress — she later revealed the look was achieved using hair gel. The looks were paired with a runny eye-makeup look.
"I know that people are going to do flowers, but my flower of choice is the most-used flower. And it's cotton," she said during an Entertainment Tonight interview, per BuzzFeed. "I wanted to do a white T-shirt, also because a white T-shirt is timeless."
Her looks could also be a nod to the "Garden of Time" theme, perhaps playing at the idea that she ran out of time while getting ready.

Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton arrived in a Burberry look he said was inspired by John Ystumllyn, one of the first documented Black gardeners in Britain.
He also said he had part of a poem by Black poet Alex Wharton embroidered inside his coat lining.
